What to do if a mistaken UPI payment is made


Call your bank's customer care department first if you ever make a mistaken UPI payment. Another option is to get in touch with the UPI service provider. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) states that you must first notify your payment service provider's customer assistance about the incorrect transaction. The toll-free number 18001201740 is where you may file a complaint if the funds were sent to the incorrect account via UPI or net banking. All of the payment-related information must be provided to them.

Complain here if the issue is not fixed


You can also file a complaint on the NPCI portal if you're not happy. Navigate to the portal and select "What we do." You have a lot of alternatives here. Choose UPI from this list. Next, complete the transaction information in the "Complaint Section." Information such as your bank name, email address, phone number, and UPI ID must be entered here. Next, select the "Incorrectly transferred to the wrong UPI address" option. Additionally, include a legitimate document with this.

You can also get in touch with the Banking Ombudsman if the issue is not fixed within 30 days of submitting the complaint. You must, however, file a complaint over the incorrect transaction within three days of the occurrence, per the regulations.
