Notice of Charge Increase in RBI's ATM Circular: 100 and 200 Rupee Notes Are Now Available

New Delhi: To address the issue of cash withdrawals from ATMs, new guidelines have been issued. It is common to see that only small denomination notes are available when you go to withdraw cash from a bank ATM, meaning that the majority of the notes come out as 500 only. However, did you know that this is not going to happen now?

The RBI has issued these guidelines through a circular, and banks and white label ATM operators will need to implement this instruction in a phased manner. In any case, white-label ATMs function similarly to government and private bank ATMs. The Indian Reserve Bank has made this significant decision so there won't be any issues going forward.

What makes the RBI's circular unique?

If you review the circular from the RBI, it contains vital information. According to the circular, the decision was made to make these commonly used banknotes more widely available to the general public. The RBI states that all banks and white-label ATM operators must now make sure that their machines consistently deliver Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes.

According to the report, 75% of all automated teller machines (ATMs) must distribute at least one cassette of banknotes in the denominations of Rs. 100 or Rs. 200 by September 30, 2025. By March 31, 2026, 90% of ATMs must be able to dispense at least one cassette of banknotes with a denomination of Rs 100 or Rs 200.
